WINDSOR, Ont. — The Windsor Star is reporting that Landstar Systems and 10 of its client companies are about to announce a long-term lease that will establish the city-owned Windsor Airport as a major freight hub.

The announcement is expected to come this morning. The new facility will reportedly handle trucking, rail, air and sea shipments.

The Windsor Star reports the new freight facility will be located on a 150-acre piece of land at the airport’s northeast, just south of the CP Rail tracks. It could be running within 18 months.

Windsor Mayor Eddie Francis has scheduled a press conference for 11 a.m. this morning at the airport.
