CALEDONIA, Ont. — Thomas Cartage had become the newest carrier to obtain preferred carrier status at KRTS Transportation Specialists. Thomas Cartage has been in business for 40 years, serving the Hamilton steel industry as a provider of drivers, dispatchers, labourers and equipment.

Thomas Cartage boasts an annual turnover rate of about 15%. They are members of the Ontario Trucking Association and many of their drivers have been at the company for more than 10 years.

Our company offers some very exciting, unique opportunities, especially for new drivers, says Greg Marotta, general manager of Thomas Cartage. They can build three years of clean driving experience with us, working in the industrial environment. Then (they can) have an easier time getting insurance down the road if they want to go out on their own. Also, because of our shift schedule our full time drivers work 14 days a month and every other weekend is a long weekend. Our people love it. Of course we give preferential treatment to KRTS graduates with PTDI certification.
