Con-way Guarantees Pay for Team Drivers, Helps Drivers Purchase Trucks

ANN ARBOUR, MI — Con-Way Truckload announced the launch of two new driver programs, Destination Ownership and Guaranteed Team Pay.

The programs were created to help drivers looking for greater independence and steady, reliable compensation, Con-Way said, while supporting the company’s driver retention and recruitment efforts.

The Destination Ownership program aims to help company drivers transition into becoming successful owner-operators. Drivers can purchase a Con-way Truckload trade truck at a low outright cost or through an affordable leasing program. The trucks also come with an extended warranty that covers most engine issues. Drivers must be in good standing, with a minimum of one year of service with Con-Way. Lease approval is based upon work and credit history, Con-Way explained.

Driver’s will be able to examine the truck of their choice at the carrier’s Joplin, MO terminal.

Guaranteed Team Pay, Con-Way said, was created to prevent week-to-week disparities in team drivers’ available mile. The program aims to reduce the negative impact of dwell time and inconsistent miles by guaranteeing payment of 5,000 miles per week — even if their miles don’t hit that benchmark. The program is still going through a pilot study, but Con-Way says it will be implemented on March 4.

"We are happy to work with our drivers to generate solutions and address specific needs," says Bert Johnson, vice president, human resources and driver recruitment.
