GUELPH, Ont. — Conestoga College has opened up a new truck and coach centre where it will train new heavy-duty technicians.

More than 100 industry representatives gathered at the campus to open the new Truck and Coach Technician Centre Tuesday. The new facility is part of an expanded motive power trades area and boasts 3,200 sq. ft. of shop space, the college says.

Two apprenticeship programs will be conducted at the centre: Automotive Service Technician and Truck and Coach Technician. Conestoga officials say the expansion will allow for more diversified and specialized programming in the future.

The trucking industry helped make the expansion possible, providing equipment, supplies and materials to ensure a successful launch. Students will begin using the new facility in September. Among those in attendance at the opening was Dan Einwechter, CEO of Challenger Motor Freight.

Conestoga is the fourth largest apprenticeship college in Ontario.
