Container hauler strike to end today?

VANCOUVER, B.C. — A mediator’s report expected today could recommend striking container haulers return to the job.

But while shippers and local businesses hope mediator Vince Ready will recommend and end to the work stoppage, his recommendations will be non-binding. Ready’s report follows talks between brokers and representatives of the Vancouver Container Truckers Association.

B.C. Labour Minister, Mike de Jong, said he hopes Ready will come up with a resolution to the dispute. Federal Industry Minister, David Emerson, says the two sides must come up with a solution by the end of the day.
