Contrans concludes acquisition of third-party logistics company
WOODSTOCK, Ont. (Nov. 3, 2004) — Canadian truckload giant Contrans Income Fund has completed the acquisition of Toronto-based Firm Transportation and Distribution Services Inc., a third party logistics provider whose customers require various transportation services within North America.
Firm is a service-oriented business that adds value to its customers by assisting with creation of paperwork, providing online load tracking, and filling other delivery needs such as air and ocean transportation services.
Firm recorded revenues of approximately $10.4 million in its most recent fiscal year ended August 31, 2004. Contrans — the 11th largest Canadian carrier according to Today’s Trucking’s Top 100 For-Hire Carrier list — will continue to operate Firm as an independent operating unit with its existing complement of management and staff.
“This year, Contrans began to develop and grow an internal third party logistics business, and Firm will be a tremendous boost in this area,” Contrans CEO Stan Dunford said in a press release.
“Firm’s current president, David Firman is a seasoned transportation professional who shall continue to oversee the operation that he and his team have built,” Dunford said. “We look forward to using David’s experience and expertise to continue the success of Firm and to assist with the development of other opportunities in third party logistics.”
