Correction: Manitoulin Purchased Vitran’s Canadian assets

TORONTO — A story that appeared on our website about Manitoulin Transport’s purchase of Vitran was inaccurate and we, at todaystrucking.com, apologize for our error.

Our story said Manitoulin Transport purchased Vitran and therefore leapt up to be the second largest fleet in Canada.

In fact, Manitoulin Transport purchased—pending regulatory approval—the Canadian division of Vitran, estimated to be about 10 percent of the Vitran total—so Mullen Transport definitely remains the second largest fleet in Canada.

As well, according to a statement from Manitoulin Transport, the deal is “a long ways from closing yet.”

Vitran announced in September that it sold its U.S.-operating unit to Central Transport, which is owned by Ambassador Bridge owner Matthew Maroun.
