CTA says amendments to IRP good for carriers

OTTAWA — Registrants no longer have to use the IRP format for IRP record keeping, and are now allowed to use their own record keeping systems and vehicle tracking technology.

That’s just one of a number of provisions under the International Registration Plan (IRP) that have recently been amended, according to a press release by Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA).

The CTA said that the amendments will simplify compliance for carriers and clarify record keeping responsibilities.

Ron Lennox, vice president of CTA, said the changes give more flexibility with record keeping, restrict jurisdictions from penalizing for records that have already been audited, and provide better guidance on what electronic records are acceptable.

The changes also aim to clarify auditing standards for states and provinces, which should, according to the CTA, help auditors accurately assess carriers.
