OTTAWA, Ont. — The Canadian Trucking Human Resources Council (CTHRC) has announced the members of its new board of directors for 2005.
The CTHRC is an incorporated non-profit organization with a volunteer board composed of stakeholders from the Canadian trucking industry. The new board’s mandate is to continue to accurately reflect the council’s guiding principle of developing products, programs and services for industry, as requested and endorsed by industry.
Members of the CTHRC’s 2005 board of directors include: Ralph Boyd (Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association), Bob Dolyniuk (Manitoba Trucking Association) and two more as yet unnamed members of the Canadian Trucking Alliance; Private Motor truck Council of Canada members Bruce Richards, Peter McAleer (Kraft Canada), Imre Zalan (Frito Lay Canada) and Chantal Bouchard (HBC Logistics); Labour industry representative Andre Papineau (Teamsters Canada); Owner/operator Leo Van Tuyl (Trucker’s Business Consulting); Paul Christie from Unique Personnel Services (a professional driver agency); professional driver James Carniato (FedEx); and Roy Craigen, a human resource specialist and the founder/owner of Transcom.
Insurance representative Dave Goodwin from Markel, and training providers Colette Gauvin (Red River College), Andy Roberts (Mountain Transport Institute – www.drivemti.com) and Kenneth Marginson (TDI Group), as well as sector-like council reps Kelly Henderson (Nova Scotia Trucking HR sector), Darshan Kailly (TT&DA) and Guy Normandeau (Camo-Route) are also board members, as are ex-officio government reps Derek Sweet (Transport Canada), Barbara Martin (HRSDC) and Phil Mickle (HRSDC).
The mission of the council is “to assist the Canadian trucking industry to recruit, train and retain the human resources needed to meet current and long-term requirements.”
The key objectives of the CTHRC are to:
* Attract new people to the trucking industry’s workforce by raising awareness of opportunities;
* Help meet the demand for skilled workers by increasing the pool of applicants; and,
* Promote better human resources management so skilled workers can reach their career potential.
