D-Day for BC truck signage change extended
VICTORIA – B.C’s Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement branch has agreed to extend the deadline for eliminating the 150 cm minimum width for small “D” signs.
Thanks to lobbying by the B.C. Trucking Association, the requirement to switch to signs of a minimum 245 cm width will be delayed from May 1, 2011 to July 1 2011.
This change primarily affects carriers that are using D signs with a width of 180 cm (D signs that comply with the requirements for a pilot car as opposed to the oversize vehicle/load).
The 245-cm width requirement for D signs on the towing vehicle is consistent with regulations in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
The BCTA says that the extended deadline "recognizes the discussion on regulatory harmonization being carried out now by the governments of BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan under the New West Partnership Agreement."
