KALAMAZOO, Mich. (Nov. 18, 2004) — Dana Corp. has completed a $6-million expansion of its heavy vehicle research and development center in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Dana’s Heavy Vehicle Technology Center houses the headquarters and R&D center for Dana’s Commercial Vehicle Systems group. According to the announcement, the expansion adds 15,000 square feet to the existing 155,000-square-foot facility. A significant investment has also been made in advanced test equipment, including a new MTS axle dynamometer. The facility’s new 1,000-square-foot strong floor bedplate strengthens Dana’s rigorous structural testing capabilities.

“This investment demonstrates Dana’s ongoing commitment to the commercial vehicle industry and the medium and heavy-truck business,” said Nick Cole, president of Dana’s Heavy Vehicle Technologies and Systems Group in a release. “The expansion of the center affords Dana additional research and development capabilities for its off-highway and commercial vehicle products.”

Dana’s Commercial Vehicle Systems Group provides heavy duty front-steer, rear-drive, trailer, and auxiliary axles; driveshafts; steering shafts; brakes; suspensions and related systems. Major components and modules are marketed under the Spicer brand name. Dana’s strategic marketing alliance with Eaton Corporation’s Truck Components group provides innovative drivetrain systems under the Roadranger brand name.
