Dana Standard on KW, Pete

Kenworth and Peterbilt have made Dana Spicer’s 40,000-pound Premium-40 tandem drive axle standard on class-8 trucks ordered after May 1. The exception is the Pete 357, on which the new DSP40 is an option.

The axle will be exclusive to KW and Peterbilt vehicles until July 1, 2003, with a full range of on-highway axle ratios. It’s a lightweight axle with a long warranty-five years/750,000 miles in linehaul applications up to 80,000 pounds GVW with engines to 600 horsepower and 1850 pound feet of torque. It has high-capacity Timken bearings, strong hypoid gearing, and micro-alloy steel “square edge” axle housing with a 9.5mm (.97 inch) wall thickness for weight saving. Options include Dana Spicer’s LMS hub.
