Deadline approaching for Truck Hero award

TORONTO — Organizers of the annual Bridgestone Canadian Truck Hero Award will accept nominations until Sept. 30.

The Truck Hero award acknowledges and rewards selfless acts of bravery by truck drivers performed in the course their everyday jobs.

The nominee must be a Canadian resident who is a full-time commercial transport truck driver, working for a Canadian trucking company.

A police statement or affidavit corroborating driver actions must be included with the nomination.

The incident must have taken place in North America between January 1, 2009, and September 30, 2010.

The degree of personal danger or risk, emergency procedures followed, assistance to victims involved, and use of safety skills and equipment will all be considered. The winner of the 2010 Canadian Truck Hero Award receives a $3,000 cash prize and a trip for two to the award presentation ceremony in Toronto in November during the Ontario Trucking Association annual convention.

Bridgestone will also make a $3,000 donation to the hero’s charity of choice. (The employer of the award winner also receives a trip for two to the ceremony.)
