TORONTO, Ont. — The deadline for post-secondary students to apply for the OTA Bud Barr Scholarship Fund has been extended to Sept. 15.

The fund provides financial assistance to university or college-bound sons or daughters of OTA member company employees who are having a tough time making ends meet due to the illness, injury or death of a parent. The program is offered by OTA and administered by the OTA Education Foundation.

To be considered for the scholarship, recipients must be Ontario residents and have a family member who has been employed or contracted to an OTA member company during the last 12 months. Applicants must be also under 25 years of age and enrolled or registered to attend college or university on a full-time basis.

The award is named for Bud Barr, in recognition of his lifelong commitment to educating the trucking industry’s offspring. Barr is the former head of the OTA Education Foundation and a retired former owner and senior manager in the Ontario trucking industry.

OTA donates $5,000 per year for two $2,500 scholarships. Recipient selection will be based on need.
