DEF heavyweights team up for 2010 supply deal

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Terra Environmental Technologies and Brenntag North America announced a mutually exclusive, multi-year strategic alliance designed to efficiently supply the United States and Canada with TerraCair ultra pure diesel exhaust fluid (DEF).

DEF is the urea-based solution required in 2010 Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) engines designed to drastically cut NOx emissions. All truck and engine manufacturers except Navistar International will be going SCR technology to meet the 2010 rules.

The deal helps strengthen claims by suppliers that an expansive and efficient DEF distribution infrastructure will be in place across the United States and Canada when 2010 engines hit the road.

"The exclusive arrangement between TET and Brenntag will provide tremendous benefits to DEF customers," said Terra President and CEO Michael Bennett. "The two organizations will tightly control the distribution process to ensure that we meet the high quality standards required of diesel exhaust fluid."

Added Brenntag North America President & CEO, Bill Fidler: "The alliance also addresses the two primary concerns that customers have been communicating to us as 2010 rapidly approaches, namely, will we be able to obtain product efficiently, and will it meet stringent quality requirements?"

Demand for DEF in the U.S. and Canada is expected to grow exponentially in the years ahead. Through this new alliance, customers will be able to source TerraCair from local Brenntag distribution points in small packages, 55 gallon drums, 275 gallon IBCs, and in bulk quantities. Terra’s production facilities, leveraged through Brenntag’s extensive network of locations with the capability to store, blend and repackage, will allow TerraCair to move across the U.S. and Canada with the highest efficiency, quality and service levels in the industry.

Terra Industries is a leading international producer of nitrogen products. It formed TET in 2003 to provide products and services to customers using nitrogen products to reduce NOx emissions from various sources, including power plants and in other environmental processes such as water treatment plants.

Brenntag offers an extensive and state-of-the-art distribution network for industrial and specialty chemicals to suppliers and customers throughout the world.
