SAN RAMON, Calif — Chevron Products Company has announced that its diesel engine oils, including Delo, Ursa and RPM, have passed all American Petroleum Institute (API) and U.S. original equipment manufacturer (OEM) tests required to meet the new API CJ-4 diesel engine oil specification.

The company’s new API CJ-4 oils are good for existing and 2007 engines operating on ultra low sulfur diesel (ULSD).

“Delo, Ursa and RPM heavy-duty diesel engine oils are ready for API CJ-4 and can be launched on October 15th 2006 when the API license is granted,” said Jim McGeehan, global manager, Diesel Engine Oil Technology, Chevron Global Lubricants. “API CJ-4 is the most robust API oil category ever developed for diesel engines. The new category includes nine fired engine tests and six bench tests. Chevron and Texaco products provided excellent performance in all these tests thanks to our advanced additive technology and Group II base stock. With CJ-4 testing behind us, our attention is now firmly fixed on PC-11 and the 2010 emissions regulations.”

To meet the new API CJ-4 specification, Chevron tested its new Delo, Ursa and RPM oils with key engine manufacturers. The company is also preparing for future emissions regulations by testing aftertreatment systems designed for use in 2010 with a global engine manufacturer.

Chevron’s new CJ-4 products, to be known as Delo 400 LE (Low Emissions) Multigrade SAE 15W-40, Texaco Ursa LA(Low Ash) SAE 15W-40 and Chevron RPM LA (Low Ash) SAE 15W-40, have completed and exceeded all the requirements for:
API CJ-4, CI-4 PLUS, CI-4, CH-4, CF, SM
Caterpillar ECF-3
DDC Power Guard 93K218
Cummins CES 20081
Mack EO-O Premium Plus 07
Volvo VDS-4
MB228.3
Chevron says Delo, Ursa and RPM API CJ-4 oils exceed the performance standards of API CI-4 Plus oils, specifically in areas of:
Wear control for valve-train, bearing and ring-liners
Oxidation control
Soot dispersancy
Piston deposit control
Oil consumption control

In related API CJ-4 news, Chevron announced in March that it will offer both an API CJ-4 and an API CI-4 Plus version of its diesel engine oils based on customer feedback and expected market demand.

Although Chevron’s Delo, Ursa and RPM heavy-duty engine oils have passed all tests required to meet the new API CJ-4 heavy-duty diesel engine oil specification, CJ-4 products will not be officially licensed or available until October 2006.
