DETROIT, Mich. (January 11, 2000) – The Detroit-based Society of Automotive Engineers has named Detroit Diesel Corporation “Powerplant and Off-Highway Company of the Year” for 1999. The SAE specifically cited the firm’s Series 4000 engine, which is designed for large off-highway vehicles and features electronic controls and common-rail fuel injection.

Winners of such an SAE designation are assessed on the significance of their achievements in five areas: new products/services; manufacturing processes; quality; application of technologies; and customer service.
