Diesel keeps climbing price ladder

NEW YORK — Diesel continues to get pricey across North America, rising a whopping 7.5 cents this week in the U.S. to hit a new post-2008 high of $3.51.

It was reportedly the largest week-to-week price increase since last April, according to the Department of Energy, and, overall, diesel is up nearly 75 cents a gallon than this time last year.

In Canada, the national average pump price for diesel fuel in Canada last week was $1.16 per liter, up just 5 cents from the week before.

Crude-oil futures, meanwhile, settled at their lowest price in more than a week Monday on indications that tensions in the Mid East are easing.

As the conflict in Egypt escalated last week, crude oil rose to post-2008 high of $92.19 in New York.
