Dollarton Hwy. extension open

NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C. — After numerous delays and saber rattling by rival oil companies, the new Dollarton Hwy. has finally been opened.

The $6 million highway extension opened last Thursday, after about three years of delays. The cost of the road was shared between North Vancouver and Nexen Chemicals, but construction was delayed several times due to a dispute between Nexen and Imperial Oil over land ownership and potential liability for contaminated soil.

The new stretch of highway extends from Riverside Dr. east about three blocks, where it hooks into the traditional Dollarton stretch. The new link provides better access to a new 18-acre industrial park, which will make life easier for truckers trying to access the area.
