Downtown Toronto off limits for dangerous goods

TORONTO — As part of the increased security measures during the G-20 summit, certain parts of downtown Toronto will be off limits for dangerous goods haulers.

From June 21 to June 28, the transportation of certain dangerous goods will be controlled into, through and within a zone that encompasses the G-20 meeting venues in and around downtown Toronto.

A map of the affected area can be viewed here.

Law enforcement agencies and transportation of dangerous goods inspectors will be enforcing this interim order, as well as all other requirements established under the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act and its regulations during the event.

The temporary restrictions will expire on June 28 at 6:00 a.m.

The RCMP are hoping that during the global meeting, truckers will act as an extra set of eyes for law enforcement and report suspicious behaviour or irregular activity. Driver’s will probably have the time to do it, as the city is expecting delays all over the region  as the world’s leaders descend on Toronto to discuss global matters.
