Driver Daigle’s a good-deed dude

MONCTON, N.B. — Who says truckers aren’t chivalrous any more?

Paul Daigle, a 15-year veteran with Loblaw Atlantic with a half-a million safe clicks under his belt buckle, was driving along New Brunswick’s Highway 1 last April when he noticed a Midland truck flipped over.

Daigle stopped and provided first aid to his fellow driver until an ambulance arrived.

For his heroics, Daigle was presented with a Good Samaritan award by the Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association (APTA) in December.

He was one of several Maritime trucking folks cited for outstanding performance by the APTA.

Others include:

Clarke Road Transport driver Jeff Wilkins, who was named Driver of the Year; Atlantic Pacific Transport’s Ian Oliver, named Dispatcher of the Year; RST Sunbury’s Terrence Howe, who was presented with the Safety to Motor Transportation Award;

And finally, the late George Smallwood, who had been a longtime staff member of the APTA.

Smallwood, posthumously, was presented with the Service to Industry Award.

"We are pleased to honor these men and women for their exceptional work and dedication to the industry," APTA Chairman Shane Esson said.
