LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Women in Trucking is hoping to form the largest ever gathering of female commercial drivers at next year’s Mid-America Trucking Show.

The organization, in partnership with sponsors Daimler Trucks North America and Frito-Lay, is organizing the first ever ‘Salute to the Women Behind the Wheel.’ It’s hoping many of the 180,000 female truck drivers across North America will attend. All women with a commercial driver’s licence are invited to attend the event, which will be held March 27, 2010. Membership in Women in Trucking is not required to attend.

“Our goal is to reach out to the 180,000 female professional drivers and invite them to a celebration in their honour,” said Ellen Voie, WIT’s president and CEO. “We will take a group photo of the largest gathering of female CDL holders in the world.”

“We support diversity in all areas of transportation and are especially excited to be able to honor these women and their families for their contribution to the trucking industry,” added Trudy Houghton, Daimler’s manager of recruiting and diversity.

Pre-registration is required and can be done online at www.salute2women.com or at the Women in Trucking booth at the Mid-America Trucking Show. The event will begin at noon with the photo shoot scheduled for 1 p.m.
