Fergus Truck Show 2009 confirmed, but not new site

FERGUS, Ont. — Despite unsuccessful rental and land use issues with neighbouring land owners, the Fergus Truck Show is a go, and is now officially scheduled for July 23-26.

It’s been an unstable situation for the non-profit organization that runs a show that is now in its 23rd year. The executives of the board have been scrambling for the past month or so to secure a new location, either at the existing site or in a new area, but potentially in the Fergus/Central Wellington Township.

“The Fergus Truck Show has faced some unfortunate times the past several months, due to land rental issues at the current location of the Show,” the organizers of the show said in a statement released this week. “Negotiations with the neighbouring land owners were not successful, leaving the organizers to search elsewhere for a home for the show.”

While the Fergus Truck Show was offered 18 other potential sites in Southern Ontario, there are currently two favourable sites in the Fergus/Centre Wellington Township area being considered for a show founded on the principal of raising money for local amenities and service clubs.

The board also announced that it “anticipated” that the next announcement about the actual site of the new show location will be made on Jan. 5. In the meantime, the organizers state they are working diligently on layout plans, as well as securing top name entertainment acts for what they hope will be the “best show ever.”

The Fergus Truck Show organizers last made a statement on Nov. 17, announcing that a new site was being considered after negotiations had broken down with the two landowners that provided an adjacent area to the main show site which was used for camping, parking, and other peripheral activities to the main show site.
