Final leg of Brandon road project underway
BRANDON, Man. — The final leg of the Brandon Eastern Access project is underway with a target for completion set for 2011.
The cost of the improvements and upgrades to the Brandon Eastern Access will run about $28 million. This project will see an underpass constructed at the CP Rail crossing, a realignment of PR 457 at the new underpass and a new intersection at the Trans-Canada Highway.
“We know the Brandon Eastern Access will be a benefit to both the farming and trucking industries and other motorists, as commercial truck traffic will be diverted to it, which will increase the safety on other roadways,” says Infrastructure and Transportation Minister Ron Lemieux.
The minister noted that $5.4 million worth of improvements are also underway on a project on PTH 1A (First Street), from PR 457 to the Trans-Canada Highway in Brandon. The work consists of grading, new lanes, paved shoulders, centre medians and intersection improvements. This project is scheduled to be completed in 2010.
