MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — The Transportation Health and Safety Association of Ontario (THSAO) is hosting a free road safety seminar tomorrow (Aug. 6) for transportation companies and shippers.
Road safety specialists will cover topics such as: sharing the road with trucks; preparing employees for safe vehicle trips; pre-trip inspections; avoiding driver distractions; and especially for shippers – how to determine a trucking company’s safety record.
“Road safety is a shared responsibility,” says Michael Burke, president and CEO of THSAO. “This definitely applies to those whose workplace extends to the roadways. We have a shared responsibility to make Ontario roads safer for all drivers.”
Pre-registration is required by calling George Iacono or Ashley Losier at 905-219-0003. Attendees can take part in each of the sessions or simply drop in for one. The event is being held at the Centre for Health and Safety Innovation at 5110 Creekbank Rd. in Mississauga and will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

9:30 a.m. Preparing Employees for Safe Vehicle Trips

11:00 a.m. Pre-Trip your Vehicle and Yourself / Avoid Driver Distractions
Responsibility for road safety extends beyond educating oneself about the rules of the road, to the mechanical fitness of one’s vehicle. Prior to driving, commercial vehicle drivers are required to undertake something called a Pre-Trip Inspection. While this is not a requirement for drivers of passenger vehicles, conducting your own pre-trip can improve road safety.

Do you know how to safely share the road with a truck or bus? Find out how to pass a truck safely, where a large vehicle’s blind spots are located and much more presented by professional truck drivers from the Ontario Trucking Association ‘Road Knights Team’.
