Freightliner makes key management changes

PORTLAND, Ore. (July 20, 2005) — Freightliner LLC has shuffled the company deck, announcing new positions for Mark Lampert, John Merrifield, and hiring a new marketing VP.

Michael E. Delaney joins the company’s executive committee as senior-vice president of marketing. In this newly created position, Delaney will assume responsibility for the development of the Freightliner, Sterling and Western Star truck brands. He will also help guide the efforts of the Detroit Diesel, Thomas Built, Freightliner Custom Chassis and American LaFrance business units to establish their nameplate identities within the markets they serve.

Delaney previously served the North American truck market as vice-president of marketing, for Volvo Trucks North America, and vice-president of marketing, for Transport International Pool.

John Merrifield, presently senior vice-president of Sterling and Western Star Trucks, will become senior VP of distribution for the Freightliner LLC organization. In his new position, he will oversee the development of the company’s network of 830 independently-owned and operated truck dealerships.

In addition, he will serve as the group’s senior link to TravelCenters of America, the company’s affiliated service partner, which provides repair and maintenance services to Freightliner truck owners at 156 roadside locations across the United States and in Canada. Merrifield will also assume responsibility for the evolving role of the 192-location Detroit Diesel distributor network within the DaimlerChrysler Commercial Vehicles NAFTA structure.

Mark Lampert, presently senior VP of Freightliner Trucks, will assume the additional responsibility for the development of sales for the Sterling and Western Star brands, as well as for the Detroit Diesel on-highway engine business unit and the company’s proprietary components sales. He will also oversee the company’s used truck operations manage by the Freightliner Market Development Corporation business unit.
