Good stuff: Reimer drivers win big at Manitoba truck driving champs

WINNIPEG, (May 20, 2005) — The 2005 Manitoba Professional Truck Driving Championships saw Denis Roberts of TST Porter win the Bjornson Memorial Award for highest score, while Gary Good of Reimer Express Lines was Grand Champion, rounding off a great day in general by the LTL carriers’ drivers.

The competition is designed to showcase the skills of the drivers as they negotiate their vehicles through a test track with obstacles simulating everyday driving conditions, as well as completing a written exam and a pre-trip vehicle safety inspection.

All events are judged by representatives of our partners in safety; the Winnipeg Police Service, the Winnipeg Fire and Paramedics Service, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and the Manitoba Department of Highways & Government Services.

All winners in the hard-fought competition are as follows (in order from first to third):

STEP VAN CLASS: Ron Loscombe of Reimer Express Lines Ltd; John Klassen Reimer Express Lines Ltd; Cameron White, Con-Way Canada Express.

STRAIGHT TRUCK (2-AXLE) CLASS: Peter Schlichter of Reimer Express Lines Ltd; John Nowak Reimer Express Lines Ltd; Andrew Lalonde, Con-Way Canada Express

SINGLE/SINGLE (3-AXLE – TRACTOR & TRAILER) CLASS: Gary Good, Reimer Express Lines Ltd; Tim Poseluzney, Penner International Inc.; Brian Hrabarchuk, Con-Way Canada Express

SINGLE/TANDEM (4-AXLE – TRACTOR & TRAILER) CLASS: Remi Van Den Driessche, LaBroquerie Transfer; Raymond Bock, SLH Transport Inc.; Sheldon Werboski, Canada Safeway Limited

TANDEM/TANDEM (5-AXLE – TRACTOR & TRAILER) CLASS: Denis Roberts, TST Porter; Frank Klassen, Penner International Inc.; Trevor Mulder, Reimer Express Lines Ltd.

SUPER B-TRAIN (8-AXLE – TRACTOR & 2 TRAILERS) CLASS: Ken Wiebe, Ram Messenger; Don Taylor, TransX Limited; Daniel Weselak, Bison Transport.

The winner in each of the 6 classes wins the right to represent Manitoba at the National Professional Truck Driving Championships, which will be held in Moncton, New Brunswick September 23-24.

In addition to the awards for the 6 classes, there are also awards presented for the best Team, the best performance by a First-Time Entrant, highest score overall, and Grand Champion.

The winning Team was Reimer Express #1, consisting of John Klassen, John Nowak, Gary Good, Rob Trager, Trevor Mulder, and Steve Collins.

The First Time Entrant Award went to Daniel Weselak of Bison Transport Inc.
