Goodyear in search of heroes for milestone year

AKRON, Ohio — With The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company preparing to celebrate a quarter century of truck-driver heroics, the company is searching for US and Canadian drivers who come to the rescue of fellow motorists.

Nominations for the prestigious 25th annual Goodyear North America Highway Hero Awards will be accepted through Nov. 30.

To be considered for this years award, the following criteria must be met: the nominee must be a full-time truck driver; the nominee must be a resident of the US or Canada; the incident recognized must have occurred in the US or Canada; the nominee must have been on the job or on the way to or from work, and in his or her rig at the time of the incident; the nominees truck at the time of the incident must have 14 wheels or more; the incident must have taken place between Nov. 16, 2006, and Nov. 15, 2007, to qualify.

Were hearing about the brave men and women who make our highways safer and drive our economy. They truly are Americas unsung heroes, and we want to honor them, said Steve McClellan, vice-president for Goodyear commercial tire systems. The Highway Hero program is for those who selflessly risk life and limb to come to the aid of fellow motorists. Anyone can nominate a truck driver for this high honor on this very special occasion the awards 25th anniversary.
