WATERLOO — Last week, two of Conestoga College’s students were awarded with the annual Glasvan Great Dane Truck Trailer Service Technician scholarships.

This year’s winners of the scholarships are Chris Hutchinson, as the top practical student, and Travis Charters, who was recognized as the most improved student.

“Once again, we are thrilled to see our scholarships awarded to such deserving and dedicated students,” said George Cobham, chairman and CEO of Glasvan Great Dane Sales Inc. of Mississauga, ON.

In 2009, Glasvan Grade Dane partnered up with the OTA Education Foundation to offer two annual scholarship opportunities.

The scholarships, worth $800 each, are annually awarded to students learning to become truck-trailer service technicians, and are awarded based on academic merit to students who are enrolled in either a traditional apprenticeship or dual (co-op) credential apprenticeship truck-trailer service technician program.

“We see this as a great opportunity to assist Ontario students with the cost of education, and hope that they will turn to the trucking industry when they start to look for jobs,” Cobham said.
