High-speed rail may link Alberta cities

CALGARY, Alta. — Bombardier is proposing a high-speed rail link between Calgary and Edmonton that would ease congestion on Hwy. 2.

The proposed JetTrain would travel at speeds of 240 km/h and be operated by a 5,000-hp, turbine-electric generator. It would reportedly shave hours off a trip between Alberta’s largest cities.

JetTrain was recently developed by Bombardier and will be making trial runs in Eastern Canada. In Alberta, it could be used on existing track.

“There’s certainly interest from many to see a high-speed link, although there has been no identifiable source of financing,” says Calgary Mayor, Dave Bronconnier.
