NOVI, Mich. — Hino Trucks is the latest OEM to announce what the surcharge will be for upcoming EPA-mandated engines utilizing Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR).

The medium-duty truckmaker says the emissions surcharge will be $6,700 per vehicle, which is in line with other mid-range diesel engines in the market.

The infrastructure to efficiently distribute required Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) for SCR engines in rapidly being established, notes Hino. DEF will be available through all 176 Hino dealers. In addition, a coalition of industries – including truck manufacturers, truck stops, retail fueling stations, fuel distributors and DEF producers will have established bulk DEF filling stations across North America.

Therefore, "DEF will be readily available for our customers," said Glenn Ellis, VP, Marketing and Dealer Operations. "Because most medium duty trucks come back to a single domicile every night, we do not see the availability or the maintaining of the appropriate level of DEF in the trucks to be an issue."
