Illinois considers truck toll hike
SPRINGFIELD — There’s a proposal before the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority to increase the toll charge on trucks.
The plan calls for a toll hike on five-axle trucks from the current $4 to $6.40 by 2015. Three- and four-axle trucks would see tolls rise from the current $2.25 to $3.60.
The extra cash would go towards building a $1.8 billion construction project on the Illinois Tollway system. The project would add "Green Lanes," reconstruct two major area interchanges, and provide funds for local interchange projects.
The Tollway will also build an interchange between the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) and I-57, as well as rebuild the outdated interchange at Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) and I-290/IL Route 53.
