Input sought on new occupational standards

OTTAWA, ON – This is the last week to submit comments about new national occupational standards for the commercial vehicle operators.

Working with the Canadian Trucking Alliance, and every provincial trucking association in Canada, Trucking HR Canada has devised proposed standards, based on consultations with drivers, trainers and fleet managers across the country.

The first draft was reviewed line by line in working sessions across Canada that included drivers, trainers, assessors, managers and more.

The document, which you can view here, is intended to clearly define the work of truck drivers. It will guide everything from training efforts to certification programs. Fleets can use the standard to determine if new or existing employees are prepared for the job. Training schools and trainers will be able to ensure their driver training material meets employer needs. A focus on driver skills also helps to raise the profile of careers behind the wheel.

Your comments are invited to ensure they got it right.

Email your thoughts on the proposed standards to jsmith@truckingHR.com by close of business Friday (Jan. 16).
