CHILLICOTHE, Oh. — Kenworth general manager and PACCAR vice-president, Bob Christensen, says a strong economy will help truck manufacturers weather 2007.

While a pre-buy is currently underway, Christensen does not expect the fallout next year to be as severe as what occurred in 2003.

Were dealing with a much stronger economy this time around, he told a gathering of truck writers last week, adding Were very energized moving into 2007.

Christensen predicted Class 8 truck sales in Canada and the US will be between 200,000 and 250,000. That compares to estimates of 310,000-320,000 for 2006.

Kenworth reports sales are up 26% this year, compared to an industry average of 14%.
