RENTON, Wash. — Kenworth plans to lay off 430 workers at its truck plant here, as North American truck sales remain stagnant, according to news reports.

Production at the Renton plant will be reduced to two off-road trucks per day. Kenworth spokesman Jeff Perietti told the Seattle Times that Kenworth will increase its build rate “when market conditions return to normal levels.”

There are currently no planned layoffs at Kenworth’s medium-duty truck plant in Quebec.

Paccar has predicted Canada and US Class 8 sales will total only 150,000 this year.
