SASKATOON, Sask. — Kindersley Transport is combating the industry’s driver shortage by launching its own Specialized Work Among Trainers (SWAT) team.

The program is an in-house driver training regime specifically designed to give a chance to new Class 1/A drivers. Officials say the program will provide new drivers with the experience they need in a safe and structured environment.

The program matches trainees with a Kindersley Transport professional driver trainer. The students then undergo intense one-on-one training on mountain driving, border crossing, maneuvering through large city centers, safety and regulations. The three-month training regime is followed by another match-up with an experienced Kindersley driver.

Kindersley says the program has already proven to be successful and it is encouraging new Class1/A drivers to apply.

"Not having two years experience is a large hurdle for new drivers," says SWAT graduate Wes Grossman of Kindersley Transport. "The SWAT program combats this issue with the kind of real world experience you need. And to me that is the best way to learn. All in all I love my new career. It’s fun, challenging and rewarding and I can’t wait to see where it takes me. I would absolutely recommend S.W.A.T. to any new driver."

Qualifications include a valid Class 1 or A licence, a minimum age of 21 years, an excellent abstract, must be bondable, have the desire to learn new skills and trainable. Applicants can send their information to Morgan Janzen, SWAT administrator at 2411 Wentz Ave., Saskatoon, Sask., S7K 3V6 or call 888-878-9585.
