CALEDONIA, Ont. — KRTS Transportation Specialists is offering special incentives for new recruits that were laid off by US Steel.

Effective immediately, any US Steel employee who enrolls in the Professional Truck Driver Institute (PTDI) certified AZ course or the full Heavy Equipment Program will receive one of the following: $300 in gas allowance to offset the travel to any KRTS training location, $300 in meal allowance to offset the cost of meals while at a KRTS training facility, or $300 in grocery certificates to offset the cost of groceries for the family while attending a KRTS program.

“All of our clients are important to us at KRTS. We have decided to put this package together because of the amount of people in our communities who have been affected by the recent layoff notice,” said Kim Richardson, president of KRTS.

KRTS officials have noted that despite the current economic climate and its effect on the trucking industry, many of KRTS’s industry partners are still hiring.

“The hiring process is definitely not as brisk as it was 24 months ago in transportation and construction, but the industries are still hiring good people and there are opportunities out there to continue to make a good income,” added Richardson.
