Like Father, Like Son: Qualcomm names new CEO

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Mar. 8, 2005) — Qualcomm Inc. named Paul Jacobs to succeed his father Irwin as chief executive officer, the company said today.

Paul Jacobs, 42, is currently president of Qualcomm’s wireless and Internet group and his appointment will be effective July 1. He will succeed his father Irwin Jacobs, who founded the company. Irwin Jacobs will remain the company’s chairman.

Qualcomm makes mobile communications systems and trailer-tracking technology for the trucking industry.
