Livestock haulers: AFAC conference to discuss transportation and security issues

RED DEER, Alta. — Alberta Farm Animal Care (AFAC) will be hosting a livestock care conference Apr. 1 that will include a session on livestock transportation and security issues.

The conference kicks off with registration at 8:45 a.m. Apr. 1 at the Red Deer Lodge in Red Deer, Alta. It will feature several seminars on livestock care.

One of the key sessions for livestock haulers will take place at 10:30 a.m. Tim O’Byrne is a livestock expert who will be presenting on livestock transportation issues. He will also cover practical anti-terrorism training for the food industry and strategies to deal with the threat of animal activist campaigns and infiltrations.

The event will also feature the presentation of the AFAC Awards of Distinction at lunchtime. Cost of the conference is $35 to help cover expenses. To register, call 403-932-8050 or e-mail info@abac.ab.ca.
