Load volumes break records in August

TORONTO, ON – Canadian load volumes were the highest ever recorded for any August reports TransCore Link Logistics.

The company says August 2017 saw a 12% increase month-over-month, from load volumes in July, but the month also shattered records set for the highest August values, with a 26% increase over August 2011.

Loads traveling within Canada accounted for 29% of volumes for the month, with a 45% growth on those loads from the same time last year.

Cross-border loads also showed an increase, and accounted for 68% of volumes for the month. Loads leaving Canada and heading for the United States saw a year-over-year increase of 42%, while loads heading north into the country saw a whopping 80% increase over 2016.

Equipment postings were also up slightly for the month, with 9% more posting than in July, but were down 17% from August last year.

Strong load volumes have been named as a contributing factor in the steady truck-to-load ratio, with about two trucks available for every one load. That’s a marginal improvement over July’s ratio, and a significant 46% improvement over 2016’s ratio of about 3.5-to-1.
