BRANTFORD, Ont. — A handful of Brantford, Ont.-area carriers are donating the use of their trucks to ensure a community fundraiser stays on course.

For the seventh year, the Brantford Rotary Club will be organizing The Great Northern Ride to raise funds in support of childrens programs in the surrounding community. From Feb. 19 to 25, about 70 riders will rev up their snowmobiles and embark on Le Tour de Gasp, in Quebec.

The snowmobiles will be trucked up to the Gasp by five tractor-trailers, which have been donated by Global Express, Hewings Transport, Fleetway Transport and Jeff Bryan Transport. Davis Fuels has also teamed up with the event to supply the fuel necessary for the haul.

Since 2001, the annual event has raised nearly $500,000 to support local programs including Junior Achievement, the Boys and Girls Club, Childrens Safety Village, and to fund equipment, camps and ramps for physically challenged children.
