Louise Yako replaces Landry as BCTA boss

LANGLEY, B.C. – B.C. Trucking Association carriers didn’t have to look very far in their search for a new president and CEO.

The association announced that Louise Yako, BCTA’s VP of Policy & Communications, will soon take over as president and CEO for Paul Landry, who announced his retirement last fall.

She will begin her official duties on June 1, 2011.

In a press release, the BCTA said Yako was chosen after a "competitive and exhaustive search" conducted by executive search firm Pinton, Madden and Forrest.

After interviewing several candidates, though, the BCTA felt its best choice was in-house all along.

"The search process also involved reaching out to other provincial trucking associations, government contacts and other organizations that BCTA regularly works with," stated BCTA Chair Murray Scadeng of Triton Transport. "These interviews revealed that Louise is highly regarded and respected as an effective, diplomatic representative of BCTA and the industry. While that’s not a surprise, the affirmation was gratifying."

Yako has been with the BCTA for 15 years.

"Choosing Louise means that BCTA will have the best of both worlds — a seamless transition from our current administration and the opportunity to improve an already well-run, successful Association that ably represents its members," said Scadeng.

Scadeng also expressed gratitude to Landry for his dedication to the association and the industry.

"I’d like to congratulate Louise and thank Paul and wish them both every success."
