CALGARY, Alta. — MAGTEC Products has entered into a development partnership with PeopleNet. MAGTECs M5K will be integrated into PeopleNets g3 onboard computing and mobile communications system.

MAGTECs M5K is designed to provide enhanced security that focuses on driver safety and management, vehicle control, asset protection and cargo theft prevention. PeopleNet is a leading provider of onboard computing and mobile communications systems to the transportation industry. PeopleNets g3 services aim to allow dispatchers to communicate remotely with the M5K to alter driver authentication codes or idling times, receive tamper notification, or access MAGTECs Acceleration Control System to remotely and safely slow a vehicle down to a point where it can be shut down completely. This would mean that, moving or not, carriers could regain control of their vehicles in extreme, volatile or potentially costly situation.

We have been excited about this partnership for some time and our development teams have experienced great results from the field testing that has already taken place, says Mark Ochitwa, vice-president of MAGTEC. In order to properly and securely manage a vehicle we need to make certain that our encrypted command protocol can be efficiently transmitted to and from our onboard device. One of our biggest efforts in any integration project is making sure that all communication is properly authenticated and highly encrypted.

Beta testing has now begun with four to six major carriers in North America who are existing PeopleNet customers and commercial availability is expected in mid-August.

Partnering with MAGTEC opens many new doors for us, states Ron Konezny, chief operating officer for PeopleNet. Our customers have been looking for something that will provide them the safety and security they need and now we can offer it to them. This is really only Phase I, we want to work together with MAGTEC on new product ideas and advancements that continue to add new safety features and technology to our products.
