Manitoba truckers award student scholarships
WINNIPEG, — The Manitoba Trucking Association recently presented six scholarships to employees or dependants of the group’s members.
Three of the scholarships were academic awards and three were apprenticeship awards. The academic scholarships are awarded to employees or dependants of MTA members that have the highest overall average in 4 – 40S subjects.
The apprenticeship scholarships are awarded to the top level 1 and level 2 graduates employed by an MTA member company in the Transport Truck Mechanic and Transport Trailer Mechanic Apprenticeship programs. There are no Transport Trailer Mechanic Apprentice Awards this year. Instead, two Level 1 Transport Mechanic Apprenticeship Awards were presented. The recipients of the $1000 scholarships are:
Academic ($1000): Benjamin Campbell, Price Waterhouse Coopers
Nicole Poklitar, Winnipeg Motor Express Inc.; Cory Wiebe, Marsh
Canada Limited.
Apprenticeship:
Level 1: Transport Truck Mechanic Apprentice ($500) — Devon Fuz, Peterbilt Manitoba Limited.
Transport Truck Mechanic Apprentice ($500) — Edward Hofer, Dallas Transport Limited.
Level 2: Transport Truck Mechanic Apprentice ($1000) — Clinton Lavallee, Beaver Truck Centre.
“We are a people industry. In fact, in Manitoba, over 33,000 are directly and indirectly employed and, if we consider the number of dependents involved, there are many thousands more who depend on trucking for their livelihood,” said Switzer. “We want to recognize the contribution of those member firms, whose employees have done so much for the trucking industry and our province.”
