Manpower predicts respectable hiring climate for transportation in 2007

TORONTO, Ont. — Canadian employers expect a moderate but steady hiring climate for the January to March period of 2007 according to the latest results of the Manpower Employment Outlook Survey.

Among the 10 industry sectors surveyed, employers in the transportation and public utilities sector predict a respectable hiring climate, with a +17% increase in its seasonally adjusted Net Employment Outlook. The result is six percentage points weaker compared to the previous quarter and is equal to the same time last year.

The survey of more than 1,700 Canadian employers reveals that 17% plan to increase their payrolls while 14% anticipate cutbacks for a Net Employment Outlook of +3%. Of those polled, 67% expect no changes and 2% are unsure of their staffing intentions.
