SYDNEY, N.S. — According to a report in the Halifax Chronicle-Herald, truckers using the Marine Atlantic ferry service between North Sydney and Port aux Basques, Nfld. will soon have to wait their turn off-site.

The ferry operator has reportedly been dealing with commercial vehicle backlogs. It’s implementing a number system, in which truckers will have to take a number and park in an off-site parking lot until it’s their turn to sail, according to the report.

Currently, trucks get backed up onto the highway, creating safety concerns. The recently backlogs are related to poor weather. Talks are also underway to implement a commercial vehicle reservations system, Marine Atlantic reps told the Chronicle-Herald.
