Marine Atlantic, union reach deal; officers deemed essential
NORTH SYDNEY, N.S. — Marine Atlantic and its employees’ union have reached a tentative agreement that will keep ships sailing smoothly for at least the next four years.
The Canadian Marine Officers’ Union and The Canada Industrial Relations Board has also deemed CMOU, Marine Atlantic ships officers, as essential employees.
This four-year agreement encompasses wage increases of two percent in the first year followed by a minimum of 2.25 per cent each year for the next three years, and also $20,000 in travel allowances per year for the officers — a major issue during contract talks.
Negotiations between the CMOU and Marine Atlantic have been ongoing since the earlier agreement expired Dec. 31.
