Meet the World’s Most Experienced Truckers

AS IF THEY NEED IT: Erb Group Driver Trainer and Safety Coordinator Radford Radke (center) goes over some last-minute pointers with 122-year vets Erb and LeBold.

HAPPY VALLEY/GOOSE BAY, NFLD. — Have any freight sitting up in Labrador that has to come west?

How about assigning it to the most experienced team in the world?

While we haven’t done any actual research to back this up, it only stands to reason that Vernon Erb and his buddy Harold LeBold would win the “most-experienced team” title.

After all, Erb, 76 and LeBold, 78, grew up together and have been friends most of their lives and between them have 122 years of truck driving experience.

Both started driving legally around the age of 16, although back then most boys start driving farm equipment and trucks by the time they could reach the pedals.

The pair left for Newfoundland Saturday, the day after Erb’s annual employee appreciation BBQ took place outside Erb’s head-office town of Baden, ON.

Erb is big on employee recognition and worker-appreciation events are common. And the brass is always on hand.

“That’s why I like working at ERB,” says Erb Driver (and the man who took this photo and gave us the story) Alfy Meyer, “They actually really appreciate their drivers and have no problems hobnobbing with us drivers.”

If you think you know of a more experienced team than Vern and Harold, we at todaystrucking.com would love to hear about them. We’d be thrilled to post their pictures and stories, too! Email us here.
