Mich, Minn get cash to alleviate truck park problem

WASHINGTON – Two northern border states were awarded $6.5 million for initiatives aimed at increasing truck parking spaces.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced the cash to help address truck parking shortages in Michigan and Minnesota.

Michigan’s I-94 Truck Parking and Information Management System was awarded $4.48 million and $2.05 million went to Minnesota’s Comprehensive System for Assessing Truck Parking Availability.

Both systems are said to deliver real-time information on parking availability through Intelligent Transportation Systems.

The Federal Highway Administration is providing the grants under the Truck Parking Facilities Discretionary Grants Program.
