Minnesota Locks the Doors

MINNESOTA, (July 2, 2005) — Thanks to a quirk in the way the State of Minnesota manages its budgetary requirements, the state ran out of money at midnight on Thursday, and has discontinued funding all but essential services.

Truckline Express, the daily newsletter of the American Trucking Associations issued a bulletin early on Thursday advising carriers of the suspension in state-offered services following the failure of the state legislature to pass a budget for 2006.

Truckers will find rest areas in the state closed up and the access ways barred. All over-dimensional and permitted load movements through the state are forthwith cancelled, and truckers who are not already IRP and IFTA registered will be unable to obtain fuel or trip permits prior to entering the state. Carriers conducting routine business in the state should feel no other impact.

The Truckline Express bulletin offered no estimates of when the government may re-open.
